3D sensors market expands in several dimensions, says Technavio

NEWSBYTE The global 3D sensors market is expected to grow by $14.72 billion over the next five years, according to a new report from Technavio.

3D sensors perform a variety of functions, including 3D imaging, position tracking, depth sensing, and gesture recognition. Common applications include security and surveillance functions in smart cities, power grids, borders, transport hubs, and utilities, together with multiple uses in aerospace and defence.

The increasing adoption of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS or drones) in navigation, surveillance, critical infrastructure maintenance, and blue-light services will also contribute to the growth of the 3D sensors market during the forecast period, says the report.

One of the biggest emerging investment areas is in autonomous vehicles, driverless cars, and driver-assistance technologies. Such vehicles incorporate a number of different electronic systems, including LiDAR scanning, optical encoders, autonomous brake systems, and other devices that use 3D sensors for imaging and scanning purposes.

Technavio’s report segments the global 3D sensors market by application (such as consumer electronics, industrial/commercial, automotive, healthcare, and others) and by geography (APAC, Europe, MEA, North America, and South America).

According to the report, North America has led the 3D sensors market in 2019, followed by APAC, Europe, South America, and MEA.

“Growing strategic partnerships among market participants, rising use of human machine interface [HMI[ technologies, and surging number of patents related to gesture recognition will boost the 3D sensors market growth during the forecast period”, says Technavio.

We’re moving dates. The Sensor Show is on 8th–11th December, 2020
